The artist has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the Britain's grassroots music venues.

Fender was given the cheque on 16 October as his new release the album was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help 38 small stages across Britain.

The money supported locations that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The concept that funds from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

He is not the first artist to give his Mercury Prize winnings to good deeds.

Back when they won the prize in the mid-90s for their record their work, frontman the singer announced that the act would donate their cash to the organization War Child.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite divided her prize among multiple organizations, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I donated a grand to my local community centre, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

Previously, the band gave their prize money to the community center that developed their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners the group gave their prize to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated artist the singer. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in Southampton and the second in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition program, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
