Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
